Canon 85mm f/1.4L IS and Three More Lenses On The Way, Report Says
It looks like image stabilization is coming to the world of Canon’s 85mm lenses for the first time. Canon will reportedly be announcing a new 85mm f/1.4L IS lens and three other lenses in late August 2017.
While specs and pricing are not yet known for this 85mm f/1.4L IS, what’s known is that it will not be a direct replacement for the Canon 85mm f/1.2 II, which will continue to be produced and sold “for the foreseeable future.”
The 85mm f/1.4L IS will be a new lens in Canon’s 85mm family, which will then consist of a low-end 85mm f/1.8 for enthusiasts, a high-end 85mm f/1.2 II for professionals, and the new 85mm f/1.4L IS for professionals who would rather have image stabilization and f/1.4 than a f/1.2 maximum aperture.
The current 85mm f/1.8 and 85mm f/1.2 II cost $369 and $1,899, respectively, and it remains to be seen how the new 85mm will stack up price-wise.
Details are scarce on the other 3 lenses that will soon be announced. We’ll find out about this new gear soon enough, and it should start hitting store shelves sometime this fall. Stay tuned.
