DJI announced the Ronin 4D-8K, a new model in the Ronin 4D professional cinema camera platform. The all-in-one cine camera incorporates DJI’s latest and most advanced technologies, including a next-generation 8K camera.

“Empowering creators with cutting-edge technology has always been at the heart of DJI’s mission,” says DJI Senior Product Line Manager Paul Pan. “The Ronin 4D-8K stands as a testament to our dedication to delivering unparalleled imaging solutions and providing creators with the tools they need to bring their visions to life with exceptional clarity and brilliance.”

The primary story here is the new DJI Zenmuse X9-8K Gimbal Camera that is part of the new Ronin 4D-8K system. The camera delivers on DJI’s long-term promise to bring high-quality 8K video recording to its Ronin system. Among the highlights is 8K recording at 60p frame rates and 4K/120p video. The full-frame image sensor has 800/4000 dual-native ISO, promising improved image quality across various lighting conditions, and promises up to 14.7 stops of dynamic range.

The Ronin 4D-8K has built-in neutral density (ND) filters delivering up to nine stops of exposure control, and DL/E/L/PL/M interchangeable lens mounts. The camera can also deliver autofocus on manual focus lenses using its Automated Manual Focus (AMF) system powered by LiDAR.

The new Ronin also incorporates DJI’s “groundbreaking” DJI Cinema Color Science (DCCS), which promises natural skin tones, even in challenging light. “Tailored for professional aerial and ground-based imaging equipment, DCCS unlocks boundless creative possibilities by vividly reproducing the kaleidoscopic colors perceived by the human eye,” DJI explains.

The DCCS color engine runs on a new algorithm that DJI says offers smoother tonal transitions, high bit-width internal color, and high-precision LUT processing.

Alongside DCCS is the CineCore image processing platform, developed by DJI to improve post-production workflows. CineCore incorporates a proprietary chip and advanced processor to support 8K videos in multiple codecs, including Apple ProRes RAW, ProRes 422 HQ, H.264, and, like the DJI Inspire 3, CinemaDNG.

DJI adds that the Ronin 4D-8K can work alongside ARRI cinema cameras and that the drone supports the Academy Color Encoding System (ACES) workflow.

“With its film-consistent symmetrical dynamic distribution, DCCS preserves delicate and natural transitions in highlight areas, making it the ideal choice for filmmakers seeking unparalleled image quality and color grading flexibility,” says DJI.

The Ronin 4K-8K combo kit includes the Ronin 4D Main Body, the Zenmuse X9-8K Gimbal Camera, a DJI DL PZ 17-28mm T3.0 ASPH lens, a ProSSD 1TB, ProSSD mount, hand grips, top handle, high-bright main monitor, TB50 intelligent battery, LiDAR Range Finder, DJI Ronin 4D RAW license key, and more. The combo is $12,838.

The new Zenmuse X9-8K Gimbal Camera is also available for purchase separately for $3,599 and includes a protective case, base cap, and DL Mount body cap. Complete specifications and purchasing details are available on DJI’s website.
