DxO Launches PureRAW 2: Enhanced Workflow Options and Fuji Support

DxO has announced the 2.0 update to PureRAW. It features several significant additions like support for Fujifilm X-Trans files. It also includes two new workflow options including Finder integration for Apple users (and Windows Explorer Integration for Windows) as well as Adobe Lightroom Plugin integration and several speed improvements.

The initial release of DxO PureRAW was a standalone version that allowed users to convert and pre-process RAW files to clean up and sharpen “noisy” high ISO files using the company’s Deep Prime noise reduction AI tools and industry-standard Optical corrections.

While the 1.0 release of the app was touted as a first step to use with RAW file processing before moving onto applications like Capture One Pro or Adobe Lightroom, this new release fully integrates the application into Lightroom so users can avoid an extra step in their workflow, making it faster and easier to fully edit their files.

Integration with Lightroom

Now users will be able to make edits in Lightroom to exposure, color, crop, and more, then send the file into DxO PureRAW where it will retain any edits made from lightroom, keeping them non-destructive (if you use the DNG option) while also being smart enough to disable the noise reduction and sharpening settings on the processed DNG.

The new workflow from Lightroom will allow users to simply right-click multiple RAW files and have the updated PureRAW 2 process the images and create new (enhanced) Linear DNG files that will be placed back in the original source folder where they can continue processing their images. This functionality has also been similarly integrated directly into Windows Explorer and the MacOS Finder where users can navigate directly to the RAW files on their respective disks and right-click to reveal a dropdown menu with the new options to Process with DxO PureRAW 2.

Support for Fujifilm X-Trans and More

The other major update for PureRAW is the support for Fujifilm X-Trans files. The company says the support for these files brings “significant benefits of DeepPRIME to Fujifilm XT photographers where they can expect clean images, free of noise and artifacts, with deep, vibrant colors even at high ISO levels.”

The company also says it has improved the performance of a plethora of other features within the app. This includes a reported significant upgrade in the speed of DxO DeepPRIME, making it much more responsive with improved processing and export times. DxO claims this update has improved speeds by up to four times faster when run on an Apple Silicon (M1) machine and up to 1.5 times faster on a Windows PC (or Intel-based Mac).

PureRAW 2.0 also includes improved support for HiDPI Displays giving photographers more control on Windows machines and has updated support for its camera and lens combinations, increasing the number of supported combinations to over 70,000 combinations. This includes more than 28 Fujifilm camera and lens combinations (including the Fuji X-Pro1, Fuji X-M1, Fuji X-E1, Fuji X30, and Fuji X20) as well as several new Leica, Nikon, Canon, Sony, and Ricoh additions.

Users can also now access sample high ISO raw files directly from the main interface of the application once opened and in an empty state. Clicking this option will take them to the web page where an archive can be downloaded. Additional updates include improved external hard drive support, improved metadata writing on exports, a smoother installation process, and several improvements made to the User Interface.
