This Polaroid 600 is Emblazoned with the Artwork of Evan Weselmann
Milwaukee, Wisconsin-based Retrospekt is back with another customized camera set, this time featuring a Polaroid 600 and a 35mm film camera that both feature the artwork of artist Evan Weselmann.
Retrospekt says that this is the first in a new series of artist collections it calls “Break Out” where a new Polaroid 600 and a pre-loaded 35mm film camera are wrapped in original graphics of a selected artist. Evan Weselmann is a Minneapolis-based artist and designer working primarily in illustration, animation and painting. He has worked with clients ranging from local mutual aid funds to international advertising agencies and his style features “whimsical cartoons dripping with vibrancy and expression.”
The main attraction in the “Break Out” endeavor, and the starting point for it, is the Polaroid camera which was originally available in the 1980s and 1990s.
These particular Polaroid 600 cameras have been refurbished to like-new condition using photographic components from vintage Polaroid cameras from the era and are housed inside a newly-designed and molded plastic exterior that allowed the company to use different colors.
Accompanying the Polaroid 600 is what Retrospekt calls a “simple-use” (although the camera’s packaging says “single use,” despite “simple-use” being Retrospekt’s preferred nomenclature) 35mm film camera that comes preloaded with 27 exposures of color film “and are designed to provide both new and experienced photographers alike with an easy-to-use film photography experience.”
In this particular case, the Polaroid camera comes with a decal sheet, illustrated by Weselmann, which can be used for further customization.
Retrospekt says that Weselmann created a new graphic package specifically for “Break Out” which has tailored illustrations that are specific to each product. The collection also features an instant camera bag and limited edition apparel line which continue the theme.
The full Retrospect and Weselmann collection of products will be available directly from Retrospekt starting on October 3. The Polaroid 600 “Break Out” camera will be available for $179 and uses Polaroid 600 film (not included with the camera). The “Break Out” Simple-Use 35mm film camera will retail for $29 and, as mentioned, ships with pre-loaded film so it is ready to use right out of the box. The pricing of the associated accessories and apparel was not revealed at the time of publication.
